The Belwood Sign - Why No Light?

Ever wonder why the brick and metal sign welcoming folks to Belwood on Belwood Gateway is not lit up?

The reason is that there's no electricity in that small island. It is maintained by the Los Gatos Parks Department.

Apparently solar panels would require too large (and expensive) of a battery for a light on the sign to be feasible. So, there are no plans to illuminate this sign.

Hi, I came across your blog by accident. I remember seeing the construction of the orginal Belwood signs, black iron lettering against an adobe brick wall on both sides so they can be seen from either direction traveling on Blossom Hill and each side had a flood light. A vehicle accident destroyed this sign and I never knew it was rebuilt until I saw the photo today. There's electricity there. I bet the line comes from the Cabana so the electric cost would be divided among Belwood homeowners via dues.

Yep. Bill is right. The subdivision lights were tied into the security lights near the pool (switch in the pool filter room) WHY I remember that I dont know. Hello fellow belwood beauties....LOL
